Monday, September 9, 2013 - I've had a bit of a roller coaster with this wine. Upon first trying it months ago, I adored it. The 2010 vintage then became a bit hard for me to find until stumbling upon 4 bottles at a local store, which I snatched up. The first came across as unexpectedly uninspiring, seemingly constrained mostly to cherry and smoke. The second bottle I opened totally brought me back.
Nose of spiced black cherry jam, smoked salmon, and white pepper. Very nice transitioning palate starting with caramelized cherry and spices moving to a great mid palate of cigar box with a touch of vanilla. Lingering yet attractive tannins and a solid finish.
My 89 is perhaps a bit reflective of my slight apprehension based on the experience as a whole, but when it's on this wine is surely a 90 pointer.
