The additional time has been kind to this bargain Malbec. And speaking of bargains, I picked this up for $8.25. If I had known how it was going to turn out I would have bought a case. I'm not saying it's the wine of the century, but it's certainly performing beyond its price point. Everything has integrated nicely and it's a nice drink of wine right now.

It's been close to a year since we last tried this, and it's another good assessment. The additional age has softened the edges just a touch, but it still has a nice spicy zest. A fantastic buy at $8.25.

I've had a bit of a roller coaster with this wine. Upon first trying it months ago, I adored it. The 2010 vintage then became a bit hard for me to find until stumbling upon 4 bottles at a local store, which I snatched up. The first came across as unexpectedly uninspiring, seemingly constrained mostly to cherry and smoke. The second bottle I opened totally brought me back.
Nose of spiced black cherry jam, smoked salmon, and white pepper. Very nice transitioning palate starting with caramelized cherry and spices moving to a great mid palate of cigar box with a touch of vanilla. Lingering yet attractive tannins and a solid finish.
My 89 is perhaps a bit reflective of my slight apprehension based on the experience as a whole, but when it's on this wine is surely a 90 pointer.

The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Slow. It smells like blackberry. It tastes like Dark cherry with a hint of black Pepper and Clove. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Angular texture finishing with a lot of tannin. Pairs well with steak, dark chocolate and Graeter's black raspberry chip ice cream.

The Ruta 22 is a ruby wine with a medium body. A faint nose of dark fruit, with pronounced tastes of dark fruits. This is a very fruity wine, it has a little smoke and oak to offset the fruit, but overall, it is a wine with little complexity that will appeal to a large groups. Probably would be a crowd-pleaser at a party.

At a graduation party last weekend I brought four malbecs for a taste test. Of the four, this one was liked second best by those who tried them all. (The others were Trivento, Graffigna, and Diseno old vine.)

Deep garnet violet color. Aromas of chocolate covered berries and toasty praline. Full of blue fruits, smoky plums, vanilla and chocolate undertones. Velvety tannins. Smooth and vibrant with a fruity medium-full body. Pure jammy, honeyed berries and cocoa flavors throughout the long, crisp and chewy tannin finish. A delicious crowd-pleasing sipper that will appeal to fans of Australian shiraz.

A good valued wine for everyday consumption. Deep ruby-colored wine, with fruit forward aromas of blackberries and a hint of vanilla. Not a smooth wine, tannins firm, but not overdone. I detected blackberry jam and a hint of vanilla on the finish.

The cork is white or barely pink. The wine makes the same impression on me, underwhelming. Not bad, but certainly not great.
Aroma is smokey. Tastes of a strong minerality with hints of sweet cherries and raspberries, slight hints of smokiness.
