Friday, November 29, 2019 - Some voices are casting doubt upon the place of La Grange des Pères as one of the great wines of Languedoc. I have no experience of recent vintages but I consider this bottle one of my best so far this year. Made from a cocktail of Mourvèdre (nearly 50% of plantings), Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, it is medium++ bodied with a silky texture showing mature plum tinged fruit, a lot of underlying roundness, touches of forest floor, streaks of game and balsam, fresh acidity, firm backbone and long finish. It is quite classical in shape with a Musar like elegance but without quite that oriental seductiveness and it revealed new facets to the last drop. Excellent.
