Sunday, April 1, 2018 - Deep, dark garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of sous bois & garrigue notes, floral notes of violets, Provençal herbs with bay leaf & black pepper, earth/dusty, minerals & a touch of oak/vanilla. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with earthy, herbs, anise, pepper, beefy, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing, but has the dense structure & ripe fruit to continue further development with additional aging even at 8 years of age. Seems to focus on the power of the vintage rather than the elegance of past vintage efforts.
