Friday, September 6, 2013 - The wine was dark purple in colour and offered ripe fruit, blackberry, cherry, black currant, dark chocolate, cocoa, spices, vanilla and roasted notes on the nose. On the palate the wine was almost sweet, with ripe fruit, blackberry, liqueur, chocolate, cocoa, a boatload of coffee, spices, chilli, vanilla, some coconut and roasted notes, paired with medium-level acidity, medium-plus very ripe tannin, a good mouthfeel and very good length. The wine was driven by tons of heavily toasted new oak, but it was neither bitter nor unpleasant or inappropriate for the full-bodied, modern style wine that contained the high alcohol (15.5% ABV) very well. I think I could eat this as dessert. Not my preferred style of wine, but having popped my third bottle of this wine I have to admit that it is very well made and utterly delicious. Consumed over three days after an initial decant of 1 1/2 hours; I liked it best the second and the third evening.
