Sunday, January 19, 2014 - This is a great Brunello. It nails two of my favorite traits in a wine, an expressive nose that wows you even inches above the rim and a long, long finish that lets you keep enjoying the wine long after you sip it. As I type this note, I sniff and sip and say, ahh this producer nailed it for me.
I learned on a wine trek in Tuscany in 2005 at a tour of Collosorbo in Montalcino how they slow-ox the wines for about an hour before tastings and I find this method works extremely well for Brunello. I just pop the cork and let it air without decanting. The wine was tannic right after popping the cork but was drinking perfect after an hour or so. We followed it through dinner and even after it just kept delivering. Classic Brunello, sour cherry, kalamata olives, forest floor, great balance. Bravo!
