Monday, February 25, 2013 - 30 minute decant and poured through a vinturri. Dark ruby-esque in colour. Getting some blackberries, cherries, and some licorice on the nose. The palate is getting some more black berries, black cherry licorice, with some black peppers and dark tobacco; concentrated and focused. Tannins are coarse but they're not all over the place. Medium bodied with a medium finish. This is supposedly a dead ringer for a CdP and I can kinda see that from my limited experience. Plenty of wine for the money on this one.

2/26/2013 8:40:00 AM - Good TN. I agree, a nice drinking wine and heck of a value. I see you are from Denver, as I am. Curious as to where you buy your wine locally. I used to buy mostly from AppleJack but now more so at Argonaut. They host a monthly tasting where a dozen to 20 or so suppliers showcase their products. $30 per event including heavy appetizers. Great opportunity to sample before purchasing. Usually a couple hundred wine to choose from and 100-200 attendees. This wine was poured at one of them.

2/26/2013 1:33:00 PM - Thanks Barry Notes. I'm pretty impressed with this wine. I do my shopping mostly online(the usual suspects: WTSO, Last Bottle, WineShopper, and a few others) and do go to Applejack every now and then as I don't live that far away from them. May have to try the Argonaut tasting event as I've always been interested in going to tasting events to find some diamonds in the rough out there.

2/26/2013 1:53:00 PM - I appreciate your response. In fact, Argonaut has a tasting tonight. They hold them the last Tues of the month. The best ones, in my opinion, are the Sparkler (Oct), and Napa (sometime in Summer). Once in awhile, they host a "90+" only night. But regardless of event, there is always something really excellent. Plus it's a real bargain. The main point of going (at least to me) is having the opportunity to try a lot of different wines at one time. Then, you then know for sure what you like. Anything poured that night is also sold "on sale", usually around 20% off. I go just about each month with a few "wino" friends although it's not a social event to us. We go strictly to taste stuff. If you do attend sometime, drop me a note and I'll try to find/introduce myself as I'm always interested in meeting/talking to other CT people. Thanks again, Barry Notes
