Wednesday, February 18, 2015 - Opened at the Anvil Club. Bottle was abandoned in a wine locker by a former member. Very dubious condition, but a light shone nicely clear through the bottle. Cork was mush, and the club didn't have an Ah-so, so we eventually pushed the cork into the bottle and strained through a coffee filter into a decanter. Color was still dark with no bricking. Nose had that oh so faint sweat sock, along with typical Bordeaux profile and some dark fruits. Palate was much better than the nose, and actually improved over the course of an hour or so. Black fruits, leather and tobacco with a decent finish. Provenance was obviously an issue here, but this was a very pleasant surprise. Not as lovely as the pristine bottle that Allred opened for us in 2013, but not too shabby either. Between the staff and a few other members at the bar, the bottle was fully consumed.
