Monday, January 24, 2011 - Brilliant, pellucid ruby with slightly watery rim. Nose of smoky cherry, Vosne spice, camphor, yellow beets, and a sweet, enveloping canopy of orchard fruit. In the mouth a bit of the austerity (acidity and slightly drying tannin) of the vintage. Succulent secondary fruit can't quite measure up to the aromatics, but the very long and serious finish suggests another few years' cellaring are in order.
PS - The following day, the fruit had retreated, overtaken by abrasive tannin and insistent acidity. I'm giving my remaining bottle a long time-out in a dark corner, but I'm skeptical about any improvement in its attitude.
