The nose is smoky showing charcoal and cassis with sweet notes interplaying beautifully with earthy notes. The palate is dark and brooding, liqueur-like, with fantastic structure and nothing overextracted or heavy. This was my highest scored wine of the tasting, although when asked to pick an overall favorite I re-tasted this next to the 2001 Pavie and preferred the Pavie.
