Friday, December 25, 2020 - The ‘08 Brunate is a stunning wine that remains very youthful today. It is a particularly sweet, exotic, and finessed vintage of Brunate. The aromatics were very cool in tone with menthol, dark red and purple fruit tones, roses, minerality, and tobacco, with the key feature being the hard candy like sweetness of the fruit profile. On the palate, the ‘08 drinks with the ease of water with very finessed and already integrated tannins. I found very sweet, candied red and blue fruit and inner floral tones, ending on blue and purple tones with a hint of spice. At this point, it impressed most for its sweetness and textural finesse. The wine was best shortly after opening, becoming a bit less expressive later in the day, so I think this needs a lot of time before it hits the early part of its drinking window.

Next to the ‘06 Brunate, the ‘08 showed more finesse with finer grained and better integrated tannins, but lacked some of the complexity and intrigue (at least at this point in its life) the ‘06 showed.
