Friday, September 14, 2012 - Lopez's wines are usually released with quite a bit of age on them so they tend to be at least knocking on the door of maturity when you open them. But this seems on the young side for a Gran Reserva release so the result is something I don't think I've ever seen before, a Lopez that's pretty much totally shut down. It's not showing any of the earthy tertiary flavors or textural suavity you normally get from these, just flavors that feel vaguely Rioja-like, c'est tout. If this bottle is representative (admittedly not generally a safe assumption with this producer) it's not to be opened for at least another decade.
