Saturday, March 8, 2014 - You gotta love a winemaker who decides the vintage doesn't allow for the making of a Brunello and turns the whole harvest into a Rosso instead. At least when the Rosso is this good. It is elegant and complex in an understated way. Fruit is cherries with violets, there's a touch of tea, of mild and elegant tobacco and herbs. The taste confirms, it's all there, even a touch of pine-ified raspberry shows up. The wine is wide-open, giving and refreshing with nice acidity, finely grained tannins and a nice touch of crushed stone. It turns out Diego Molinari was right, this isn't a Brunello as it won't improve with age. It still tastes better than most Brunellos and what a treat that you don't have to wait ten years. 92 including the love Diego Molinari shows us and his wine.
