Sunday, February 26, 2012 - Dark red core that fades out to an orange tinged and watery rim. Viscosity appears medium. Some sediment in this so let bottle rest first and and pour slowly over light or decant.
This opens up with aromas of cured meat, currant, and forest floor. Ancillary aromas of coffee, suede, mushrooms, campfire, thyme and wood all softly mingle.
On the palate this wine still carries some zip, bright acid structure, and good tannins that are balanced. Flavors of sour and dark cherries, cranberry, stewed tomatoes and game meat are met with touches of juniper, and herbs. This screams stewed or braised meets specifically lamb or other game meats. The finish has grip, though the flavors fade out moderately.
Slightly past its prime, however this wine still has some life in it and could possibly go another few years. good by itself but do yourself a favor and pair with food!
