Sunday, October 2, 2016 - Tasted blind. Wow. Everything in tune. This wine is drinking brilliantly now. Brilliant bouquet of herbs, cherry, roses, tobacco, bacon, and aged balsamic vinegar. Lots of integrated tannins in the structure. Could age for a while but this is fantastic now. Everything I look for in a wine. Rating: 97

Guess the wine: Brunello? 10 years old?

Non-blind p.s.: Maybe I was just in the mood for Brunello. Or maybe Brunello should be in the running for world's best wine. It was a relief to pull this wine from the blind sample set after pulling several Northern Rhone, Piedmont, and Bordeaux wines, many of which struck me as heavy, murky, and tannic. The savoriness and balance in this wine are extraordinary.
