Reddish orange/brown in color. Aromas of dried red cherries, asian spices, hint of tobacco, cooked mushrooms and earth. Ripe, sweet and savory stewed red berries make an impression on the palate that shows decent acidity, no tannins and a decent spicy and earthy finish.

Maxflight of Brunellos (Wilmot Wine Emporium): Part of a Brunello Tasting with three Talenti vintages as the feature event. This wine was ready to please. Warm bouquet of stewed cherry and plum and tobacco pouch and leather. A bit of a funkiness on the nose but that's possibly just a little stale reduction. Straightforward, dark red fruit with chocolate, licorice and black olive. Fine tannins and good balance. This is meant to be drunk now. Started to acquire a bitter note within an hour of the tasting. Pair with grilled red meats. Drink up!

Root day - direct from the cellar so cool and pop and pour. Translucent garnet/orange in the glass (Pinot Noir glass which I prefer for older Sangiovese based wines). Nose of dried red flowers, savoury red fruit, even a touch of tar (which I didn’t expect). On the palate it shows the dryness and red fruit I expected along with a smokiness and earthiness I didn’t. A bit of a drying finish but that may be because it’s still cool. Will update when it warms to cool room temp and has some air.
Leaf day - well… it took 4 days but now this wine is shining! Showing definite potential for more development. Now showing beautiful red fruit, red florals, cinnamon sticks, dried leaves, and something ethereal that I can’t quite define but is in every quality Brunello I’ve had (some tar/licorice mixed with beeswax is the closest I can describe it). Palate is similar to the nose with the fruit being more dried than fresh and the spice showing in the long finish along with the floral element. Not rated first day but a 91 tonight.

Three years after my previous bottle, this is showing on its very last leg now. Clear bricking in the glass, an oxidative whiff on the nose upon Pnp, soft and round on the palate with savory medicinal notes but otherwise aromatically fairly bland. Past peak. Glad this was my last bottle, difficult vintage particularly for producers in the Southern cluster like Talenti. Drink up.

I count myself as a Talenti fan but this vintage has been marred by warmth of '07. There is some appealing fruit, herbs & underbrush notes. I'm struggling with the alcohol heat and heady aromas poking through to degrade the overall experience. Still some tannin to resolve. A bit of head scratching vintage for Talenti. One btl left that I'll take a one last swing at this again between 2025-27. 89 minus

Medium-deep brick red color. Very ripe and concentrated on the nose, with perhaps slightly stewed dark fruit aromas of plum, blackberry, and blueberry. There is maybe a touch of volatility to it as well, but actually not much in the way of developed notes. Some of the other CT notes made me concerned that I had already waited too long on this one, but honestly, on the nose at least, it's still showing very primary to me. The only other things I'm getting beyond the very ripe fruit are a bit of spice and maybe some violet floral character. A bit worried heading into the first taste that this is just going to e a big heavy fruit bomb without much elegance or complexity.
Well, after my first taste, I would say my fears were partially confirmed. it is very big and very ripe, and has a ton of rich, ripe, round dark fruit flavors that dominate the profile, and it also shows more alcoholic heat than I would like. On the plus side, however, the tannins are very pleasantly silky, and there is some nice tobacco herbal character that provides a bit of depth, and the oak influence has been managed very well, providing that luxurious texture and hints of vanilla and creme without sticking out or making the profile overtly woody or drying it out with oak tannin.
So overall I would say that the winemaking is very good, and the fruit is very high quality, but the ripeness and stylistic choices are such that it tastes like a very good super Tuscan to me. A very enjoyable wine, but not quite what I'm looking for from Brunello. As for longevity, I don't really see any need to rush to drink this, as there is still a ton of fruit and those primary flavors are still dominating, but I also don't know that I think it's going to reveal a wealth of new depth and complexity with more age. I'm not sure it will ever develop into more than it is now.

This continues to drink well and to be enjoyable with a minimal amount of air. It’s cleanly made and I, again, find a slight balsamic note on the palate. I think this is drinking at peak and wouldn’t hold them for more than a few additional years before expecting to see a decline.

I think this could have had more potential and am suspicious about the storage as I bought 3 bottles on Winebid. Not saying Winebid is at fault as physically bottles were in good shape with good fill, just saying these seemed more aged than other Brunello I have had at this age in the past. Bottle 1 was borderline corked, bottle 2 was corked and bottle 3 was good. Brownish in color did not detract from taste. Chocolate, caramel, earth notes. Medium bodied finish. Drink now.
Upon opening, slight notes of cork taint. Oh no....Thankfully, I gave it some time and those aromas blew off. What remained, was an earthly and quite delicious 13 year old Brunello. I have a couple more and will be anxious to try another soon and hopefully not flirt with cork odors at all. Drink now.

Decanted for 30 minutes just prior to dinner. Built in a more modern style of Brunello. This is a good wine, which we enjoyed with herb crusted beef tenderloin with black truffle butter. Magnificent pairing. The wine is drinking great now as long as you pair it with food. If by itself, you might think it is still too young.

Pnp for lunch and then finished remaining half of bottle for dinner. This is well done given the challenges of the vintage. Good acidity and not showing any of the overripe/burned fruit notes some other 07 BdM show. Not the most complex BdM but a classic profile and works well with food. The remaining wine 6h later darkens visibly and shows some more balsamic and dark fruit notes but also loses some of the freshness. Would pnp and drink over the next 3-5 years as this is not going to improve with further bottle age.

I might be moving on from my previously beloved Talenti? I used to sing the praises of this producer but lately, its feeling a bit more modern and oaky to me then it once did. Doubt the style is changing at all. Pretty sure its my palate's continued evolution and ever expanding appreciation for wines that really show their transparency, terroir and finesse. Tonight's btl was still kind of grapy, primary and reminded me more cabernet than sagiovese. I totally understand how others may love this more but, I'm off the Talenti bandwagon. Tonight this played total second fiddle, for me, to the more; ethereal, pure and terroir driven 2013 Ragnaie Rosso I opened along side it. With the extended family and Red Wagon pizza.

More approachable than I was expecting. The nose is expressive and modern in style. Red berries, sweet dried tobacco leaves, road tar, spice. The tannin is also softer than I was expecting, especially since I pulled it straight out of bottle with my Coravin with no decant. It would warrant a higher score if the fruit on the finish wasn't slightly stewed. I still really like it.

What a beautiful bottle of wine! The fruit is pure and in perfect balance with the body of the wine. Acids have subsided, while the fruit dominates, as one would expect in a wine at its peak. While it will last longer, this is an ideal time to drink this wine.

Guess the wine: Brunello? 10 years old?
Non-blind p.s.: Maybe I was just in the mood for Brunello. Or maybe Brunello should be in the running for world's best wine. It was a relief to pull this wine from the blind sample set after pulling several Northern Rhone, Piedmont, and Bordeaux wines, many of which struck me as heavy, murky, and tannic. The savoriness and balance in this wine are extraordinary.

Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $40+ (Bin 75): See through crimson core with orange in rim; tobacco, brown sugar, lean, aged, red fruit; nice mid palate, soft resolved tannin, dried cherry, some structure, herbs, licorice, a little tinny; almost reminds me of Grenache in a way but I called '05 BdM; not a fan of this one.

Dark raspberry, earth, herbs on very nice nose. Very delicate and very smooth. Reminded me of of a northern brunello despite the fact that Talenti is in the southern Sant’Angelo region. Great cherry flavors with a strong mineral component, hints of mint. As others have noted, very burgundian. I think this will turn out better than the '04 version.
I thought this wine was relatively weak for a Brunello. While not insipid, it lacked a concentration of flavour expected from a Brunello. I felt it could have been a Rosso Di Montalcino. The winemaker describes traditional style, not extracting a jammy flavour. In Montalcino, just as the Cote d'Or, SE facing slopes are preferred. This vineyard is SSW possibly yielding a less robust flavour.

Still not sure about this wine. Seems a little out of balance. Need to keep the other two bottles for a few years to see what happens but no need to rush out and buy more. Had this after a 2007 Campogiovanni (San Felice) Brunello di Montalcino, which I much preferred.

One of the best 07 BdMs I've had so far. I've had around four 07s so far and this was the most harmonious at an early date. Popped the cork about 90 minutes prior to drinking but no decant. Next time I might decant just to further open everything up. This is classic in everyway with weightless, pretty fruit, minerality and a velverty mouthfeel. Delicious with pizza tonight from Pizza Luce.

Young but very nice Brunello; shows great promise. Tart and bright red fruit... raspberry and cherry. The tannins are not harsh, but they are present and laser focused. This isn't a huge wine, especially by Brunello standards, so its approachable even at a young age. I've heard that this is the case with the 2007 vintage. At this point, its more mineral-driven then fruit driven. Decant for 1 hour and enjoy!

Monthly Tasting Group LTB 2012-09; Italy, Montalcino (By FB): Transparent red with a slightly garnet rim. In the expressive bouquet red forest fruits, herbs and spices and esp. some pepper. On the palate a slightly sweet start followed by juicy fruits and firm acidity and some earth. The tannin is sticky and drying, but very ok. Good length. Really good wine that will benefit with some more ageing. Probably best between 2015 and 2020+.

Agree totally with Paul S below - he's captured it beautifully in his note. Love the brick/orange colour, the aroma (not yet a bouquet) and the silkiness on the palate - very Burgundian as Paul states. It can be drunk today and for 10- 20 years to come. Delicious. Long finish - the best Italian wine I've had for quite some time. Excellent QPR.

A lovely wine with tons of potential. What surprised me though was how enjoyable it was for such a young Brunello, especially when paired with a delicious Bistecca Fiorentina. The nose was a bit disjointed at first, with sweet fruit and earthy notes sticking out at awkward angles. However, with a couple of hours in the decanter, it opened up and melded into an entrancingly youthful bouquet, where fragrant herbs and dried flowers, flecks of juniper berries and hints of menthol danced around an underlying core of black cherries, plums, and a savoury base of smoky, earthy, almost meaty notes. Very nice and complex for such a young wine. The palate, unsurprisingly, was still very primary, but was very tasty and showed lots of promise. Here, there was a solid core of ripe plums and black cherries showing quite a bit of depth, but it was also lifted with bright cherry-tomato-ish acidity that kept the wine really lively and energetic. The fruit was then met on the midpalate by a good amount of earth, meat and shades of mineral that lent the wine a surprising amount of complexity and nuance. It had a lovely long finish too, where a deep, muscular core of dark fruit was coiled with wreathes of smoky bacon, mineral and hints of herb. Lots of depth, plenty of power, yet lithe and well-focused, this is a wine that should age quite beautifully. I would love to try it again in 10 years. On the night, it was immensely enjoyable with a beautifully prepared Bistecca.

Smooth, yet has good concentration. Good sangiovese fruit profile with lots of raspberry, minerals, and spice. Very 2007 fruit-forward that is a bit modern in style as well. Solid wine.

Great wine, but can't keep up with its 2006 brother. Even so, it got 3rd in the this month's tasting.

Bottle was somewhat oxidized due to the cork had a huge internal crack.

Fairly dark. Intense smokey earthy raspbery nose. Still very tannic. Just a great midle aged wine.

Traditional style. Lovely nose with cedar and cherry. More elegant than powerful.

A new wine-producer for me, and a surprisingly good one. Nothing complex, just round and elegant. Give it 3 more years, and you can drink and enjoy this good wine.

Very classic....
Restraint sour cherry flavors in a wine with a transparent ruby color...
Nothin modern about this wine..
No new oak detected and not over concentrated...
Med body and med nose of fresh cherry.

Don't know about this one. Lots of complexity with a good finish but almost seemed like too much going on. Detected some heat on the finish. Maybe this will evolve into better balance. Will have to keep remaining bottles for more years.
