Wednesday, October 2, 2013 - Napa Valley Wine and Food Excursion 2013; 9/30/2013-10/5/2013 (Napa Valley, California): This opaque crimson wine is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Franc. It is very engaging from the start, effusive of ripe black cherry, fig, anise and lavender aromas. Fresh, full-bodied and focused on the palate, it weaves flavors of black fruit, anise, bittersweet chocolate and sage into a firmly tannic frame. The wine's alcohol (listed as 14.8%) is nicely integrated and the middle palate is sturdy. It concludes long and dusty. This is a very well-made Cabernet which will likely benefit from short-term cellaring. Thereafter, is should drink nicely for 10-15 years. Drink 2015-2030.
