Community Tasting Note

Friday, December 7, 2012 - OK Carlisle fans, I took one for the team by opening this the day after it was delivered since so many before had done the deed. I was assuming this wine was full of stuffing and needed a big decant, wrong my friends, surprisingly open for business right from the start. I did drop it through a vinturi and decanted for a hour before writing the note. The color was really dependent on the amount of light; crimson, garnet, to ruby as the light intensified. Nose was fruit forward with a slight whiff of jerky, jasmine flower, blue and red fruit. Palate was a surprise, thought I'd be hit with big sweet fruit and tongue clearing tannins as this stage, nope. The fruit is slightly unripe blackberry and tart raspberry with a significant dollop of acid mid palate surrounded by wet stone and light toast. Tannins are rounded and noticeable chalkiness. Finish is nice and the complexity is a bonus at such an early stage.
