2010 Carlisle The Derivative White

Community Tasting Note

Saturday, November 7, 2015 - Popped and poured, golden hue. Pretty aromas of lemon slices, lime zest, wet wool, jasmine and mineral water. Moderate body. On the palate, this shows additional notes of citrus along with fruit which veers more towards sliced apples and pears along with a touch of honeyed spice from oak. Decent acidity adds to an excellent, lingering impression of minerals on the close.
Although very nice right now, it seems somewhat closed and could use a few more years to both open up and further integrate the oak.

Day 2 update: Largely unchanged on the nose, although the aromas seem even prettier and show a beautiful, honeyed-lemon complexity. The palate has become more steely, with distinct mineral notes emerging (much closer to how it showed on release). Upon reflecting on yesterday's showing, I'd say the Sémillon element is a bit taught and the extra day allowed it to loosen up a bit. Really, this is a great CA white, it's just not the right time to open it.
