Monday, June 12, 2017 - Absolutely a treat, and 100% a wine that I will be searching out its brothers to enjoy as well! 2009 vintage, you would think this one would require some air that otherwise would be ready to go right out of the bottle. I was sorely mistaken! Even after double via a breathing carafe, and waiting an hour, the hydrochloric acid was still extremely strong!!! :) Although I struggled to have much respect for this wine at dinner, I have huge respect for it 3 hours later. This is a wine made by people who know the grapes that are produced in this region. You can tell their hard work and dedication are in every drop of this bottle. Poured a lighter color than I was expecting into the glass. Not quite Beaujolais, but reminiscent of a full bodied pinot. After the acidity died down, this was Black Cherry Cola with clove and nutmeg in the nose, which was all present on the front of the palate as well. The middle was just an extension of the front but the flavors seem to be more intense and the wine takes on a slightly sweeter note. The finish is tamed acidity, clove and earthy spices but with a solid black cherry core. Lots of really good concentrated earthy black cherry on the finish. A first for me from Sardinia! The other bottle will be held for at least 5 years.
