Sunday, March 17, 2013 - Decanted for about 2h. Still a dark garnet, sweet dark fruit, liquorice, earth, fresh herbs, a touch of oak. Good acidity giving it freshness. Fine tannins, medium+ finish.
This wine really has a fantastic balance and a very precisely drawn palate. Interesting to see that one does not have to go back to 1980s/1990s to find outstanding Bdx with moderate alcohol levels, this has 12.5% but definitively not missing on fruit or concentration.
Out of the Bdx I have had over the last 12 months, the 01 Montrose and the 95 Pape Clement were the two wines I have been most looking forward to revisit. While they are very different wines, and neither will wow you immediately, they share this outstanding balance and precision that makes them an absolute joy to drink. Even better now than last year: 93-94
