Saturday, November 23, 2013 - I can see why lots in the wine world are excited about the Albarino grape being the next new thing. There are flavors and aromas that are totally unique, and fairly difficult to describe. The first impression is very "Old World" with more non fruit impressions on the nose and palate. I'm at a loss to know how to describe what I am tasting. It does taste good. My first thought is water melon rind. meets not quite ripe pear skin. That is not enough to describe the out lying flavor profile, but it is a start. The fruit with varietal is surrounded by flavors that we don't find any where else. I am getting a light touch of olive brine meets gooseberry. Very young and refreshing. Plenty of balancing acidity. Unique and fun.
