Saturday, February 21, 2015 - RUTH-ER-FORD - DUST. A very nicely well done wine, and dusty!!! This bottle needed about an hour of decanting before it was even in the ballpark to be rated (had this weird nitrogen and somewhat vegetal note in the first 15 minutes). At 2 or 3 hours, this one still shows some restraint and youth. Nice dusty nose, notes of kirsch, purple fruits, blackberry, quite intoxicating actually. On the palate is a full bodied, dusty monster with blackberry, dark baker's chocolate, a hint of mocha in the mid-palate blackberry core with saddle leather and bramble. DUSTY! The finish is sweet tannin, quite a bit punchy, and still with a TON of age left. This wine will appreciate over the next 7-10 years without a doubt, possibly longer. Drink 2015-2025.
