Tuesday, April 9, 2013 - Orange wine from New Zealand. A really nice Kiwi version of an orange wine that has correct phenolic aromas but little tannin or oxidative notes. Light cloudy orange hue. Sour mandarin peel, barnyard, beer fermentation aromas. Lovely bright varietal flavors are just apparent before being subsumed into the yeasty goodness of the wine. Excellent and a wine that one of Garagiste's (Hobart restaurant) Slovenian producers said was worth exploring. The wine's fruit aromas became very bright and Kiwi (and are correct to its terroir) but the farmyard and possibly reductive elements became distracting over time. Very good and could be interesting to see where it goes over time.
