  • 50/70 Celebration for Marc and Bud (Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand): Cloudy orange color - aromas of leather, fermentation, peach - in the mouth, lightly tannic, very correct orange wine flavors, lovely texture and good complexity. Paired to an 11 Madison Park dish that featured robust flavors of bean, chorizo, seafood and bouillabaisse, this was an excellent match - complimentary favors (and color!) helped elevate the wine and dish.

  • Orange wine from New Zealand. A really nice Kiwi version of an orange wine that has correct phenolic aromas but little tannin or oxidative notes. Light cloudy orange hue. Sour mandarin peel, barnyard, beer fermentation aromas. Lovely bright varietal flavors are just apparent before being subsumed into the yeasty goodness of the wine. Excellent and a wine that one of Garagiste's (Hobart restaurant) Slovenian producers said was worth exploring. The wine's fruit aromas became very bright and Kiwi (and are correct to its terroir) but the farmyard and possibly reductive elements became distracting over time. Very good and could be interesting to see where it goes over time.

  • Rootstock (Sydney, Australia): 5 months on skins. There is some earth, mango and a light oxidative edge. The palate has some evident tannin influence and the fruit is restrained by it. Interesting and challenging.

  • Grower - Only (Imperial Treasure NanBei @ Taka): Alcohol :: 13%
    2/3 Pinot Blanc, 1/3 Pinot Gris. Vineyard yeast fermentation, natural malolactic, and five months on skins before being lightly pressed in our tiny basket press. No sulphites.
    This wine started slow, but getting better and better every visit. Persimmon, red cherry fruits, lots of sweet tones but with underlying mineral precision to it. Taste natural and bright, with red fruits, persimmon and complex, fine-grained tannin and mineral. Chewy, long lingering finish. Very good and enjoyable. Tons of character.
