Friday, August 26, 2005 - Wow. I bought a mixed case after reading Tanzer's favorable reviews. Here's the first bottle I've opened and my first bottle from Laurent. I've read plenty suggesting that M. Laurent's approach to oak is somewhat heavy handed. The wood is there but I'm not hit with a 2x4 in this very pretty bottle of wine. Of course primary, but elegant nevertheless. Red fruits dominate both on the nose and in the mouth. Forest floor comes around in the mid-palate to the finish. Ah, here we go. As the wine sees more air, more wood creeping in here. Enjoyable. A nice wine to start off the weekend. I'm glad I have three more in the EuroCave. I'll let things calm down a little bit before opening another.

What is it about French pinot that makes it so distinctive? I could have nailed this as Burgundy on the smell alone.
