  • From a bottle purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion, this wine was taken to Le Cirque Las Vegas for consumption with dinner. Medium-to-deep garnet, it opens fully within 30-45 minutes in the glass to flaunt a core of red currants and black raspberries, accented with cocoa, coriander, pickling spice and leather. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic (13%) and with resolved tannins, it is dense on the mid-palate and closes with a long, smooth finish. This Burgundy is at its apogee and is holding up better than anticipated. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years. Drink now-2020.

  • This medium-to-deep garnet wine was purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion. With minimal aeration, it shows complex aromas and flavors of saddle leather, red currants, cocoa and pickling spice. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic (13%) and with resolved tannins, it is very easy to drink. The middle palate is solid and the smooth finish is very long. Now is the time for this fully mature, high-quality Premier cru Burgundy! Drink now-2016.

  • Medium red color with a slightly brownish rim. Ripe, elegant fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Like a lot of red Burgundies, this wine started out a bit tired and gained in stature with each passing minute. The oak and tannins were nicely balanced and well-integrated. Not quite at the level of the Tanzer review, but still a solid Premier Cru at its peak drinking period.

  • Wow. I bought a mixed case after reading Tanzer's favorable reviews. Here's the first bottle I've opened and my first bottle from Laurent. I've read plenty suggesting that M. Laurent's approach to oak is somewhat heavy handed. The wood is there but I'm not hit with a 2x4 in this very pretty bottle of wine. Of course primary, but elegant nevertheless. Red fruits dominate both on the nose and in the mouth. Forest floor comes around in the mid-palate to the finish. Ah, here we go. As the wine sees more air, more wood creeping in here. Enjoyable. A nice wine to start off the weekend. I'm glad I have three more in the EuroCave. I'll let things calm down a little bit before opening another.

What is it about French pinot that makes it so distinctive? I could have nailed this as Burgundy on the smell alone.
