Sunday, June 23, 2019 - Riley's 1st Birthday (Botanic, Raffles City): Disgorged Nov 2016 - this was a good, fun, and really yummy NV champagne to kick things off. It had a decent nose, rather neutral and unobtrusive as far as champagnes go, but quite attractive, with some white fruited accents and a touch of yeast, all pulled together with a little streak of steely aromas. The palate showed a decent bit of bottle age on it. Still bright and fresh, with a fine mousse and good acidity, but there was also an easy, approachable roundness to its flavours of red apples and honey pears, perhaps just edges with a little hint of oxidative fruit peels and some of the yeastiness picked up on the nose. Decent finish too, drifting away with a bit of citrus zest and a suggestion of minerality. Based primarily on 2008 grapes, this really spoke of the quality of the vintage. Yum.
