2010 Montevertine Toscana IGT

Community Tasting Note

89 Points

Friday, December 13, 2013 - With its dusty red fruit profile, piercing acidity, and granular tannin, this is pretty much textbook Chianti, but reminds me why I don't buy Montevertine as often as I'd like, because it's textbook Chianti at twice the price of everyone else's textbook Chianti.

I know of hardly anyone even coming close. Castello di Monsanto, yes, maybe Castell'in Villa and I don't know that they are that much cheeper. Looking at say, 2006 and 2007, I'd say more like 92-93 than 89, so I realise this could very much be just preference. But still, do spill the beans on what other producers that make old school Chianti Classico like Montevertine, the version without barriques.
    Thanks!
