Tuesday, August 19, 2014 - Bright ruby in color. A bit tight on the nose, but shows some smoky struck flint character and some spicy notes of cinnamon and toasted oak. The sweet pinot fruit is there in the background, with faint raspberry and blueberry pie aromas. With air, the smokiness recedes and it becomes more floral and perfumed. More harmonious on the palate, with the raspberry fruit and the floral spice merging together more smoothly. It’s a little heavy on the oak, though, especially on the finish, just veering a bit more to the vanilla and creme side than I’d like. Good length, and nice silky texture. Light to medium in weight.

This is good stuff. It’s actually a little more closed down than the bottle I had almost two years ago, and it also shows the oak more prominently. But I like the balance, and I think the oak with calm down with some more time in the bottle. I think I’ll save my last one at least another two years.
