Monday, September 30, 2013 - A really, really nice aged cab. This one was good but it wasn't the "OMG this is the best wine ever" that I thought it was going to be. This wine is starting to show a little age, and it has aged nicely. I had this bottle on day 2 after it had sat for a day. The pour into the glass was a dirty red. The nose was earth, a little nitrogen, aged blackberry, tobacco and herbs. The palate was very consistent with tobacco and herbs right up front, intermixed with that fruit component that was pretty shy and soft up front, and very present i the mid-palate. The wine finished rather soft, very integrated, very little tannic bite. Pipe tobacco trickled in and settled. There was some sediment on the neck and in the bottoms of the wine glasses when the last was poured. Cork had shown bleed through about 80 percent. All in all this is a nice wine. I see there are quite a few of these in the cellar, and based on what I had today I think it's time to start serving this one - - - - with about 3-4 hr of decanting :)
