Friday, March 6, 2015 - Followed an 08 Hermitage at the Chave tasting, another mediocre vintage. Chave again worked his magic on this 2011. Lots of fruit on the nose and palate on this very young wine. Fruit dominated the nose, but there were hints of spice and barnyard, a really pleasant nose. The palate showed a lot of balance, big tannins, lots of red fruit, med/long finish. No one thought it was another Hermitage, but most were surprised it was the Offerus. Nice value. We speculated that JL Chave won't let anything leave his cellar with his name on it unless it is really good, especially after the Mon Coeur that came later.
