Friday, August 11, 2023 - December 2021 disgorgement, 2-4 grams of dosage. This is built on the 2019 base, using the perpetual that stretches back to 2005. All 7 varietals are in here, specifically with %....Fromenteau (10), Arbanne (8), Pinot Noir (14), Chard (18), Pinot Blanc (17), Meunier (18) and Petit Meslier (15). This is my first go with the 2019 base, having finished off all of my previous bottles of the 2017 base, which were all enjoyable. For this bottle, a citrusy aroma when cool in temp, even some white pepper to amplify the bright aroma. Tangy, with what I suspect is some of the pink grapefruit coming through from the Petit Meslier and maybe some melon from the Pinot Blanc. Combined with all of this is a dried cherry and mango note, adding some light astringence and tannin to give the wine spine. Lurking inside of all of these is some of the red fruit imprint, I presume from the Meunier and Pinot Noir, which comes through as a raspberry flesh. There is a lot to consider in a wine like this, one that keeps me thinking. I still pause with the price ($110 US) for this iteration and yet I keep buying and sharing a bottle here and there of it to showcase how wine can take the palate in a different directions.
