Community Tasting Note

95 Points

Friday, January 29, 2016 - Beautiful and classical bouquet with cassis and other dark forest fruits, cedar, cigar box and beautifully dosed oak which is perfectly integrated in the wine. All impressions come back on the palate, beautiful acidity and round tannin with still a pleasant bite. Overall a really very beautiful and complex and mature wine which still has plenty of bite for the future. Until 2020+ should not be a problem. Have a few, so there will be follow ups.

I was just reading this tasting note and saw that you used the description of "exclusive oak," and was wondering if that was a typographical error or an error in translation? "Exclusive" would suggest that it is a rare oak, or hard to obtain oak was used in the barrel cooperage.

Reading the note, I thought you might have meant excessive oak, similar to use of brand new oak barrels for every single drop of wine. You might see excessive oak in Burgundy by winemakers like Dominique Laurent, who used 200% new oak in older vintages and that was excessive. I know you like feedback on translation so I thought I would ask?

2/1/2016 2:50:00 AM - Thank you C. for your comment. Really appreciated!! What I did want to say is that the oak is beautifully toasted and integrated in the wine, so it adds to the complexity and the sense of luxury. Do you have a suggestion how I could put this in a few words in a tasting note? Thanks!

2/1/2016 7:45:00 AM - I think that it could be said that the oaking was fully integrated with the wine and was in complete harmony with everything else to make the wine as complete as can be. I know harmony is usually used most with musical references like melody, but when something matches perfectly using the term in perfect harmony seems to be appropriate. In Paul McCartney's song with Michael Jackson. Ebony and Ivory, the next say "fits together in perfect harmony, side by side on a piano keyboard.."

That or perfectly integrated with the wine, is the best I can think of this morning here. Thanks for the reply.

2/1/2016 8:27:00 AM - Thank you very much for your reply! I changed this note, and the coming week I will check my older notes, because I am quite sure I have made the same mistake before. On this side of the pond working day is almost over and I have to hurry to a nice C9duP 2009 tasting :-) What a horrible life ;-)
