From the moment you pull the cork, the wine’s exceptional poise and class are evident. Deep ruby in color (very pretty!), with a nose of sweet cherry pastille, rich creme de cassis, cocoa, beeswax, the story really takes off in the mouth, which simply explodes with a rich, palate-saturating spectrum of ripe fruit flavors and soft, smooth tannins. There is a kind of umami dimension to the palate, almost like dried cherries, that I find irresistible. Endless finish. Just wonderful!

At maturity, this will be a gem, but of course it may not really be fully mature until 2050. If I waited, well, I might not be in a position to drink vintage port by then.
