Sunday, March 9, 2014 - The '03 Duhart is absolutely singing right now. Open an hour the nose here is very complex and showy with aromas of anise and currants; this is not a wine with your straightforward raspberry and cherry fruit. So much class, especially considering the extremely warm vintage and the real genius here is this comes off as classic Bordeaux and not a new world wine. Having said that, this Duhart is full and so warm and enveloping. The oak is noticeable but well integrated. With time a touch of mint and bay leaf make an appearance and since I'm at it I'll mention the charming fungal forest floor aspect as well. Dare I say somewhat rustic? I noticed as I poured the wine the color is starting to oxidize a bit and I must say I think this has peaked and will remain on a brilliant plateau for the next four to five years. I see no point in drinking this after Spring, 2019 as the tannins are soft and velvety and all parts are integrated. Very good wine.
