Saturday, July 25, 2015 - My eight bottle over the last 3 years. The 03 Duhart is a wine that has never disappointed me, and in my eyes probably still constitutes the best value and ready to drink Pauillac in the $60-100 range. Poured into decanter and drank over 3 hours. The wine is open almost from pulling the cork but needs about 1h to gain beautiful complexity with herbs and spices. The fruit has none of the overripeness of the vintage, which I not only get in the more southern parts of Medoc in 2003 but also for example in both Barons in this vintage. Nice medium to long finish.
If there is one thing to criticize is that the coffee notes from the barrel toast have been getting more prominent over the last few years if anything, and the hope that the fruit would fully absorb them does not seem realistic anymore. Will try to drink most of my remaining bottles over the next 2-3 years as I don't think this will get any better.
