Sunday, April 28, 2024 - Deep straw, verging on gold. Brilliant, and clearly aged. Fantastic nose: red apples, grape and lemoncurd, a whiff of vanilla, and some beautiful mineral tones of slate and petroleum. Smells almost like a sweet wine without botrytis. The attack on the palate, however, is bone dry. Lots of apples and citrus up front, high acidity that makes for a salivating mid-part filled with orange, citrus, red apples and slate. Almost tannic on the finish, still with lots of life. The aftertaste is long, bone dry, and marked by citrusy and petroleum tones. Remarkably young in the mouth. This has really only started to age, and I guess that the mineral tones will become clearer in five years or so. I have been bit skeptic towards the aging potential of dry Rieslings, but this wine clearly reduces that skepticism. Beautiful wine.
