Friday, December 4, 2015 - Two Great Old Burgundy Dinners with Dear Friends; 12/4/2015-12/5/2015: Light red but no fading at all. Gorgeous, mouthwatering aromas of sour cherries, flowers, tar, and chocolate. One of our friends said it smelled more like old Nebbiolo than Burgundy, and I can see his point. Again, the clarity and purity of fruit in this 30 year old wine are remarkable. A good twist of cranberry acidity remains. It actually picked up a bit of texture before attenuating ever so slightly after 3 hours. These ancient Dubœuf domain Beaujolais crus can be shockingly good, and this one certainly fit that mold, acquitting itself well in the midst of some venerable Burgundy.
