Wednesday, July 23, 2014 - The nose was refined and classy, yet constantly evolving, with cherry skins, burnt wood, dusty spice, citrus, minerals, and hints of animal musk. At times it was the bouquet of a young wine and at others, I would have thought this to be a well aged Sangiovese. On the palate, dark red fruit swirled around the senses, cherry, cranberry and plum notes lingered throughout with a tannic spine and stern acidity. A savory note with something I'll call crushed plum and clove lingered long on the finish--as if this was just tasted along with a well seasoned steak in a wine reduction sauce. This wine is a baby, it needs five or more years in the cellar and will likely bring much joy when it emerges again.
