94 Points

Wednesday, October 5, 2016 - Piedmont Trip, Day 6- Pira e Figli, Marcarini, Vietti (Barolo, Piemont, Italy): Nose: The nose is deep, layered, and perfumed with a cool quality to it with red fruits, roasted herbs, violets, spice tones, fresh picked berries, tar, wild flowers, and some earth tones.

Taste: Medium bodied with high acidity and high tannins. The structure is extremely youthful with red fruits, roasted herbs, violets, fresh picked berries, tar, earth tones, and wild flowers.

Overall: This is a gorgeous, young Barolo. It is in desperate need of time, but everything is there for this to be something truly special. It has loads of depth and layers with extremely youthful structure. I would love to try this in another 6-8 years.
