93 Points

Saturday, January 8, 2005 - Dinner at Lampreia (Seattle, WA, USA): Double-decanted on my way to Lampreia. Loads of spicy cedar, cassis, and violet. Mmm, I think this is going to be fun...

Explosive and complex aromatics moving from earth, iron, cedar, blood and truffle towards violet and lead pencil. Gorgeous! On the palate this is surprisingly sweet with red fruit, then getting more pliant and approachable and showing a darker profile with black fruit, graphite and spice-cake. From the start the finish was remarkably long at glorious. At times this showed more structure with tooth-coating tannins that still have time ahead to resolve, but after 3 hours of air this relented and turned to pure silk.

This was definitely in the 93-94 point neighborhood, a glorious bottle to enjoy over the course of a long and relaxed meal and far more enjoyable than a bottle tasted less than a month ago.
