Thursday, December 17, 2015 - Cepages Bordeaux Tasting (North End Grill; New York City): Drank at our Cepage bordeaux tasting alongside an 83 Mouton and 86 Leo Barton. None were decanted, though this wine could have used it. Lots of cedar & lead pencil both on the nose and palate. Still decent fruit level, but more dominated by tertiary elements. Chalky tannins, and lighter bodied than I would have thought. Also, at first, it seemed a bit green or stemmy (cab franc influence), but as it sat in glass, it opened and changed, and became noticeably more approachable, demonstrating wonderful complexity, balance and elegance. Quite an interesting wine that, after it had opened and sat in glass for some time, showed why this is such a great chateaux. Note I bought this wine at auction long ago and it held up pretty well in the cellar, though was a bit short on fruit.
