2011 Gemstone Estate Red

Community Tasting Note

Does not like this wine:

75 Points

Saturday, February 29, 2020 - Decanted an hour before dinner (lots of sediment) only to find plodding flavors drug down by heavy oak and low acid. We struggled thru a glass apiece and dumped the rest.

4/4/2023 10:45:00 AM - Fair question. 1) all the other tasting notes were several years earlier than mine. 2) I didn't just have two bottles, I had three, and two out of three were lousy. I didn't write a TN on the first one, but referred to it as a 'dud' in the note I posted which was on bottle #2. 'Dud' would infer something very similar to bottle #3--unpleasantly below expectations but with no obvious technical flaws--not corked, not oxidative, just 'bleh!'. More like I got two of the last bottles from the bottom of a barrel. And that's not what I or any customer should be expected to call a flaw--it was just a poor bottle resulting from, one has to guess, a poor decision made in the winery. Based on that, my bottles deserved a low score.

4/6/2023 6:49:00 PM - I appreciate the reply. Very informative; thank you. What a bummer. It's odd because I just opened one last night and it was in the 92-93 range. I'm way behind on posting TN's so I'm hoping to get it into CT in the next month or so. I hope you have a better experience next time around. We really enjoyed ours. Cheers.
