Thursday, May 11, 2017 - Dried red cherries on the nose, along with plum, blackfruit and some beautifully intense floral qualities. Noticeably more aromatic than the 2001 Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne from the prior night. Nearly full bodied (14% ABV) and impeccably polished and elegant. A simply stunningly beautiful Barolo with outstanding complexity through the middle, showcasing a mix of black and red cherry, strawberry and black raspberry. Integrated spices, tar and plum notes make up the finish that lasts and lasts. I was struck by the purity of the fruit through the middle as well as the fantastic depth this wine possesses. The evolving and complex fruit plays off the backbone/tannic structure of the wine so exceptionally well and integrates so nearly seamlessly with the finishing notes; this wine was a true joy. The vibrancy that this wine demonstrates tells me it should have 5+ years or more at this level. I'll be getting some more for sure. (Taverna delle Rose; Torino, Italy)
