Saturday, May 27, 2017 - At home over soy sauce chicken and cheese - really enjoyable. It took just a little time in the bottle to open up, but this was just about singing at 13 years of age. This had a really pretty, attractive nose, with drifts of red cherries and darker blue and blackberries laced with lifted tones of menthol, cola and flowery wild herb aromas, all this tied together with a minerally, stony earth undertow. Very Rhone. The palate was showing beautifully, with plush notes of dark cherries and blackberries woven with velvety tannins and lovely balancing acidity, all clean, focused and balanced, yet somehow still preserving the rustic charm of Cornas, with a nicely savoury counterpoint that reminded me of olive tapenade. Nice finish too, midlengthed, but delicious, with a smooth glide of black fruit, sweet spice and woodier tones of dried grapes on the branch gracing the backpalate. A lovely little wine, drinking deliciously right now.
