Sunday, October 7, 2018 - This is probably at the far end of what I can tolerate in terms of rusticity in syrah. The nose is a little meaty, and doesn't show too much fruit. Instead, there are some tart elements, a hint of smoke and blood, some rust and olive as well. The palate is somewhat angular, with an almost unbelievable amount of tannin for its age. I have a bit of concern as to whether the remaining fruit will outlive the structure (the answer is probably not), but right now, this is hitting the spot. (I'll add that the addition of food makes this a much more viscerally enjoyable wine.)
