Saturday, May 30, 2009 - A leftover sol-ja from Memorial Day party - neighbor who brought it indicated they had cellared it since purchase and it was "overdue". The experience was exactly as described below by Paul S. Color was a deep golden yellow that one would not guess as being your typical 1-2yr old NZ SB. Generous and rather complex aromatics of buttered hazelnuts, a little fine petrol, toast, gooseberry, and lemon - loved this nose. Palate was surprisingly fresh and intense with fruit, especially on the attack and falls off considerably in the finish that I suspect was not a characteristic of its youth. Overall clearly excellent and did not fall apart over three hours of sipping, which perhaps attests to how well it was made.
