90 Points

Tuesday, June 22, 2021 - First bottle from a case bought on release. First time drinking Mastroberardino’s Radici, and the only other Aglianico I remember drinking is Terra di Lavoro. This is very different. Dark garnet with a translucent rim. Fairy muted nose. On the palate this is very round but without being overly rich or ripe. A nice, moderate 13.5% with no heat. Tannins fully integrated upon opening with more air they come a little but overall this seems like a nice, easy drinking wine at its peak in my eyes. Unlike Terra de Lavoro this is much more about drinkability than about impressive aromatics or delineation. While not showing any signs of oxidization, I would drink over the next 4-5 years as I cannot see further upside with longer cellaring here.
