91 Points

Thursday, November 6, 2014 - Pop/pour. Very young / primary as is to be expected. Bold dark fruits trending toward a very modern, fruit forward style. Alcohol is relatively high at 14.7% and not entirely masked.

This makes for a nice "cocktail" and would also please at the table of a favorite steakhouse, it is slightly more forward / modern / fruit bomb than I gravitate towards. From memory, my impression of several previous vintages was of greater balance. 91 points for today, 92-94 points potential.

Not super happy about the 30% price increase to $90, which for me starts to move this from "nice buy" to "I'll need to think a bit further".

11/6/2014 3:50:00 PM - Great note, thanks for entering. Echoed my thoughts exactly on the price increase. I actually sent them an email at the time of the offering questioning the price increase and not too surprisingly have yet to hear back :)

11/6/2014 9:01:00 PM - I'm also afraid to see what the LMV and Solari are going to go for. I'm wondering if they think those are $150+ which as great as they can be also makes them compete with another class of wines.

11/7/2014 12:45:00 PM - I'll echo these comments about the disappointing price increase. With tax and shipping, the Larkmead Cab 2012 came out to $106 per bottle. I'm sure that we are in for another hike with all of the rest (Firebelle, LMV Salon, and Solari).

Thanks, VANPE003 for trying this a posting the note. I was thinking about Coravining a glass since I have 6, but now I'll just take your word for it!

11/8/2014 6:17:00 PM - There is just so much money in the budget for high quality Napa Cabs. I guess I’ll have to assess and drop off a couple of my other allocations. For me, it would be very difficult to give up Larkmead. I know, but I still think the wines are good value (if I can say that) for what is in the bottle. Right?
